Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech has been a slugfest thus far, and we now have our first ejection of the contest. Junior defensive back Desmon Smith was booted from the game for targeting after a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit in the first half.Smith’s hit came against Rebels wideout DaMarkus Lodge with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter. Smith leads with his helmet and catches Lodge under the crown of the helmet as he comes down from trying to catch a pass.Smith was called for targeting and ejected. It’s actually one of the least-controversial calls for targeting that we’ve seen so far this year.Ole Miss, at the moment, holds a 24-7 lead on the Red Raiders. The second quarter is about to start. Here’s the play:Desmon Smith got ejected from the game for this hit pic.twitter.com/7uq89WBrSs— Prime Bam Childress (@fearthe_beard11) September 1, 2018Needless to say, this isn’t the start that Texas Tech was looking for.Neither Ole Miss nor Texas Tech are expected to be national title contenders this year, but a big win against a ‘Power 5’ program could go a long way for each team.
