zoom Latvian owner and operator of medium and handy size tankers Latvian Shipping Company (Latvijas Kuģniecība) plans to dry dock eight of its vessels at Riga dockyard until July, to reduce fuel consumption and upgrade communication equipment.While in dry dock, the vessels will undergo technical repairs, get a fresh coat of paint, and new satellite equipment. The company estimates that over USD 3.6 million will be invested into the repair works of the ships. Two of the company’s medium range tankers have already undergone the dry docking repairs, with six more to go until July.During the repair works, the ships will be lifted out of the water utilizing a floating dry dock in order to access the entire hull. The body of the vessel will be painted with an anti-fouling and finish coating in order to assist with reducing fuel consumption.Satellite antennas and the communication systems will be installed on the ships thereby ensuring continuous internet connections, improving communication and data exchange between the ship and its managers in Riga whilst the vessel is at sea.The company also plans to install an additional hydraulic tugger-winch on the forecastle deck to comply with the latest Single Point Mooring regulations and, a special aft towing strong-point to be installed on the poop deck to comply with Norwegian oil-terminal requirements.
Gurugram: A National Security Guard (NSG) commando accused of molesting an 11-year-old girl on the unit’s campus in Manesar was arrested on Saturday.The accused identified as Havaldar Parvind Kumar was produced in a city court and remanded in judicial custody. The girl’s mother had approached the group commander, NK Sharma, who lodged a complaint at the women’s police station in Manesar. Kumar had been detained for questioning on Friday and was arrested after he reportedly admitted to having touched the girl inappropriately. As she was coming out of the canteen, Kumar allegedly molested her. The child rushed back home and told her mother that “an uncle” had touched her inappropriately. The woman approached the group commander. CCTV footage was examined and a case was filed. Following the complaint by Sharma, an FIR was registered under Section 10 of the Pocso Act at the women’s police station on Thursday. Police spokesperson Subhash Bokan, however, said Kumar had been arrested and sent to judicial custody on Saturday. Neither the NSG nor the police issued any statement. Co-incidentally the day this incident happened, five people were also arrested for molesting a 20-year-old woman, working with a garment factory, as she stepped out for lunch in Sector 37 on Thursday. The woman was attacked by four men, who were in an inebriated condition, in an auto. They pulled her inside the vehicle and forced her to drink the alcohol they were carrying. According to police, the crime took place around 1.30pm on Thursday in Khandsa industrial area, Sector 37. An FIR has been registered in the case.
